NEWS Flu Vaccines are still available in the surgery and are recommended for all patients over 70 years of age and anyone with an underlying medical condition. However we can administer them to anyone who has any concerns regarding the Flu, and is keen to get the vaccine.

    Our vision is that people with dementia will be able to remain at home, active in their communities.

K-CoRD will:
  • Deliver a more effective and coherent response to the needs of people with dementia, their families and carers living in the Kinsale area.
  • Promote and support the development of Kinsale as a dementia-friendly community.
  • Strengthen collaborative relationships and pathways between associated service providers primary healthcare professionals, voluntary and private service providers.
  • Offer educational opportunities to both community members and health care professionals.
  • Adapt technologies that might assist those living with dementia.
  • Influence national policy and provision, and achieve the sustainability of the initiative within Kinsale, by demonstrating the effectiveness of its programmes, and of the collaborative approach.

Who is involved?

K-CoRD is committed to working collaboratively with other organisations that are aligned with its vision. To date these include: Health Service Executive; Alzheimers Society of Ireland; Market Place Surgery, Kinsale; The Medical Centre, Kinsale; Kinsale Community School; University College Cork; Cork Institute of Technology; Kinsale Day Care Centre; Kinsale College of Further Education

Funding K-CoRD is supported by The Atlantic Philanthropies and the Health Service Executive through the Genio Trust under their dementia programme until 2016. Four consortiums received funding nationally:

  • Kinsale Community Response to Dementia (K-CORD)
  • The 5 Steps to living well with Dementia in South Tipperary
  • Community Action on Dementia in Mayo
  • Living Well with Dementia (Dublin)
